The Picture of Dorian Gray – Part 7 of 10

Synopsis: Dorian Gray (Peter Firth) is a privileged man who sits for artist Basil Hallward (Jeremy Brett). Gray is so happy with the results that he wishes he could look that way forever; Hallward tells him it could be so, but for a terrible price. 3. piflover says:

    The actors in the …
The actors in the new version sound “posh” (compared to the awful “Estuary English” that’s popular on TV) but back in the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s the voices heard on TV were much clearer and easier to understand. Also, regional accents are popular on TV now because BBC English, Home Counties voices are considered old fashioned :(

    Jep.. the thing is, …
Jep.. the thing is, BBC English is much better to understand.. In this verison I understand each word, in the new version which runs in cinemas that day I couldnt understand everything… (I’m German, so for me it’s second language)

  5. Ranja86 says:

  9. piflover says:

    All these actors …
All these actors are so well-spoken … people sneer at “BBC English” now but I much prefer this style of speech to that heard on Big Brother or EastEnders.

    Jeremy Brett was a …
Jeremy Brett was a wonderful human being….it’s really quite aggrevating, not to mention frustrating when ignorant people say condensending, brainless, useless, comments about him……the world already has enough evil in it, and people insist on adding more, and more >:-(

  13. poppylv21 says:

    Dorian is such a …
Dorian is such a little in this. He comes across as a child, not a young a man. He’s not nearly good looking enough nor charismatic. Very disappointing.

  19. grai says:

    Margaret Thatcher …
Margaret Thatcher later copied the hair-do

  20. doctorcropcircles says:

    I know exactly what …
I know exactly what you mean.. I have felt like that, most people I suppose must have for I think everybody must love once.
I think this scene is some of the best acting Brett did, but it was a litttle spoiled by the Dorian he was confessing his love for. I’m imagining Jude Law in ‘Wilde’, don’t know about anyone else.

  21. Darkpersonhaha says:

    After Basil says ” …
After Basil says “It was a confession” he has the most hilarious facial expression.

  24. Noblefauf says:

I’ve read the book a few times, and so far this movie is very close to the original book.

And man, Dorian was such a jerk to Basil!
