A picture book about a child who wants to be a button on his mother’s dress?

I’m trying to locate a kids’ picture book, quite old, in which a child asks his mother if he may be various household objects. His mother rejects each suggestion, and explains what the problem would be. His final request is to be a button on her dress and the mother says, "Yes, that right away." Does anyone know this book? thanks!
